This morning I was the first to wake along with Lola. As we made our way through the quiet house a mischievous idea came to me. We crept down to Joshua and Brigs room and then I placed Lola up on the top bunk beside Joshua (there’s a significant railing). Lola was in on the gig too, not making a single sound. Pretty soon Joshua became aware of Lola, “What the?” I heard as a grin crossed my face atop the stairs. “How did Lola get here? Brigs how did she get here? Maybe she did climb up here, or maybe I was sleep walking and brought her down here.”

That’s when I came down and told them I thought Lola was a teleporting baby. Classic.

UPDATE: Joshua just asked if we could rig up a camera over his bed so we could capture how Lola is ending up in his bed.

I haven’t posted anything about our sweet daughter, Lola, since her birthday. Lola is a joy, and a remarkable addition to our family. I love her completely. Her personality already seems uniquely her, and feminine. Even when she has been well fed and attended to she seems to be vying for my attention. She does not like to be left out, preferring to be in the middle of things—which reminds me of Daria.

I love to hold her and make her giggle and smile. She was so little just a few months ago but now has some chunk when you carry her.

Lola has a sweet smirk that melts me, and reminds me of Joshua’s smirk, whom she very much resembles right now. I love that my kids all seem to have a shared appearance reminding us all that we are a family. I’m so very blessed to have each of my five children and all of them make me want to have more. Then the memory and worsening extremes of Daria’s pregnancies quench those desires.

I think of Lola as a little miracle and she provided a very significant spiritual experience while still in her first trimester that I hold dear and thank our God for.

Truly she is a blessing of the highest type.

Tonight at dinner Brigs was telling us about a book he read at school. I always ask the boys how their day was and what they learned at school, the default answer is usually, “I forgot.” But with a little follow-up he explained many things about his day—and then he got interrupted. And I swear this is some genetic trait in my family, because true to Muirhead form he said, “Can I start over?” I had to really bite my cheeks and hold in my laughter (though Daria and I shared a knowing smirk) because this is classic Brigs.

It also really reminded me of growing up with my sister Elizabeth, she had to be heard from start to finish without interruption. My mom seems to have the same trait, although I can’t decide if she is getting better at tolerating interruptions or getting worse. I’m also told that I would routinely throw out schoolwork once I had committed a single error on the page (something I outgrew, or maybe computers have helped with).

It’s fun to notice your kids behaviours and relate it generationally. We even have a phrase for this in the family, coined by my father, the aptly named: reveling in your idiosyncrasies. I love my Brigs, and his desire to be heard.

I’ve become aware that I haven’t been writing here very often. So what have I been doing instead? Mostly reading elsewhere and occasionally tweeting on twitter, with a very small sliver of facebook. I don’t find twitter to be a particular inviting medium for fleshing out thoughts, but it is great for cutting to the heart of them. Twitter is also great for discovering things across the web and for checking in on a current hot topic. I think it’s also great for doling out links to things you find interesting. I think if I was a major thought leader or personality it would become even more useful.

I like blogging for its vastness. I can be as short or as long as I wish. However, I think I may need to create a place to write about my non-personal endeavours. A place to write about dentistry and a place to write about technology. If I was writing about those topics perhaps I would become addicted to writing on all of my blogs more often. Perhaps I can persuade my brother to create a smoking design for my existing domain portfolio. I really like his new design for my sister-in-law, Katie. There was a time when I would do it myself, but I’ve lost the drive for now.

Not a very interesting reacquainting for you, dear reader, but it’s a start back for me.

We spent Canadian thanksgiving in Calgary this year, surrounded by our families. We had two wonderful dinners with tasty fare and desserts. My parents graciously welcomed us into their home to stay. A highlight was playing Rockband: The Beatles with Dylan and my Dad. I consider the Beatles the greatest band of all time, so it is fun to enjoy their music. The animation and illustrations bring the music to life and remind me of the Cirque de Soleil performance I saw in Las Vegas two years ago. I highly reccomend playing the game especially with a baby boomer. I also really enjoyed attending church and the lessons were interesting and inspiring.
