Enhanced Podcast? It Works! It Works

Hey all you iTunes users. I’ve created an “enhanced” version of my initial test podcasting that I need you all to check for me.

My server administrator made some small change and soon you will be able to just download the file into iTunes-but I’ve got a RSS feed working for you now which is even better-all you have to do is subscribe in iTunes and then all my podcasts will just keep on coming into your iTunes or other RSS Aggregator.

Procedure:

Open iTunes.
Open Advanced Menu and select Subscribe to Podcast
Enter the following text to the pop-up window:
www.muirheadkingdom.com/podcastxml/podcast.xml

That’s it!

The podcast will download 2 podcasts, as of today. Both have the same audio but one has the enhanced version with links etc. To view the enhanced version open the file in iTunes and press Command-G or go to Edit Menu and select Show Artwork.

NOTE: The pictures and links in the artwork pane are actual links but the RSS feed link doesn’t have this new feed I’ve created, but rather the old feed.

Try it! Enjoy!

Enhanced Podcast

LDS Voices

There is a great podcast available via the iTunes music store entitled LDS voices. This blog/podcast provides a new audio talk from the best of LDS speakers over the past century. There is a new talk each day to help keep your gospel knowledge, testimony and interest sharp and bright. Best of all once you subscribe (for free, of course) a new talk arrives each day in your iTunes Podcast Library or any other RSS podcast aggregator (try iPodder, iPodder X for example).

We listened to two talks this afternoon by John Bytheway, and another from President Gordon B. Hinckley. Brother Bytheway’s talk on The Best 3 Hours of the Week was inspiring, and insightful. President Hinckley’s talk was addressed to the young women of our day and beautiful and simple in its counsel.

Today our church services discussed having a broken heart and a contrite spirit. I learned and felt a great deal from those who spoke. This doctrine seems so crucial and important to becoming Christ-like. What I appreciate and love is how easy it is to feel this teaching, and realize by my own experience its importance. In Psalms 34:18 we read: “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” What peace and patience enters ones life when we are of this attitude and aura. My favorite scripture today comes from Doctrine & Covenants 101:38 “And seek the face of the Lord always, that in patience ye may possess your souls, and ye shall have eternal life.” I love the part about possessing your souls because I frequently toil and struggle with self-mastery and this scripture provides a simple building block to achieve that feeling of godly composure. Ponder on that beautiful thought with me this week-and let me know if you find a talk on LDS voices you really enjoy-at the rate of one a day I haven’t quite kept up, and I’d be interested in your reviews.

Podcast Update

We are getting ever so close to moving ahead with our podcasting dreams. I’ve read a book on podcasting and the equivalent to 2 or 3 more on the internet. The website design is being finalized and we even have an online forum up and running, but still needing design tweaking. We have a clear vision document to guide our efforts and even got our first mention by another podcaster-quite unexpectedly! I’ll post more details as we are ready to release them.

I love Widgets

This blog post is being done via an Apple Widget called Wordpressdash. Basically a widget is a tiny little program that sits on an invisible layer on your desktop that appears with a keystroke.

For instance, I have downloaded a plethora of widgets some more useful than others. I have one right now that is tracking my eagerly anticipated podcast recording equipment shipping via UPS. Another widget tells me the weather and forecast. I’ve also got “daily widgets” these give me things like a word of the day, fact of the day and bible verse of the day. Another sweet widget is Google Maps which has satellite images and maps of pretty much all of North America and more. It’s cool to view a picture of your families house taken from space from the comfort of your home. Another sweet widget is Asteroids. I played this game as a kid on our first Apple Macintosh-every time I play I get a giddy flashback from my childhood. Theres some 800+ widgets out there for all kinds of things from translation to unit conversion to stock trackers, html editors and even iTunes lyric finders, flight trackers, daily Dilbert? cartoon, guitar chord and I could go on and on. So here’s to widgets, apple and awesome developers.

Podcast Snippet

Hey Everyone! Daria and I have been extremely busy bees going hard-core after all things podcasting. She’s recording, I’m reading everything I can get my hands on about sound, podcasting, recording and voice training of all things. The t-shirt selling on podcast alley says it all “Can’t sleep must podcast.”

We’ve created a rather primitive 1 minute podcast for you my faithful readers (all 8 of you?) to download and test and give your feedback. We are still working on the sound quality, mic positioning and editing—basically we just want to hear if you could download the RSS feed and actually hear something on your computer resembling my voice and some music I wrote in Garageband.

Check it out by subcribing to the RSS feed link at the bottom of my blog page or the RSS link below.

RSS feed

If you don’t have a dedicated RSS feeder but you have iTunes 4.9 do the following steps:

Launch iTunes and go under the Advanced menu to Subscribe to Podcast
Paste in this URL www.muirheadkingdom.com/blogs/nathan/wp-rss2.php
Don’t prefix the URL with http as iTunes does that for you

Here is a link to the actual mp3 file should the above not work but you still want to listen.

NOTE: I placed the wrong url it is now fixed above.
