And They’re Off

September 3, 2008

The first two days of school are now under my belt for this year and I’m doing a bit better. I know I was pretty weepy about my boys heading back to class (I just have so much fun with them when they’re around), but they are enjoying it thus far.

Joshua scored big time in the teacher department and ended up with Dylan’s old grade 2 teacher. She promptly came over and gushed about how he looked so much like Dylan (which Dylan was pretty pleased to hear – being memorable is always a bonus). Brigs was a bit more hesitant when he hit the classroom, his new teacher seems outstanding and I’m excited to see those two work together this year. I’m going to be volunteering in both classrooms whenever I can so I can participate in what they are up to. Maybe I’ll even learn a thing or two – you never know!

Dylan shot into High School on the grade 9 technicality. Grade 9’s are included in High School here, gulp! He’s off each morning on the bus before I’m out of bed, and has reported that he knows tons of kids on the bus to school from last year. Thank goodness he didn’t have my horrific High School experience of being the new kid and not knowing anyone at all on the first day. We moved during the summer before I started High School and it felt like a huge adjustment just getting to know the kids in the school never-mind find your class, enjoy your class and actually participate. Man I’m glad its them and not me, I don’t really miss high school at all (other than a few close friends I made there).

Noah is my little man at home this year, and I’m so grateful that he is! I couldn’t bear to have them all away all day long. He’s my little sunshine buddy and we have some fun stuff planned to do while the big boys are gone this year.

September is like spring cleaning all over again. I have been ruthless in cleaning and organizing clothing and toys, bedrooms and toybins. Lots more to do but it feels so freeing to rid our home of surplus that is broken or unused. The kids can again walk into their bedroom and pick out the exact toy they want to play with – it’s BRILLIANT!! LOL!! Much better than being impaled in the foot by a swarm of GI Joe’s and plastic swords. For all my griping about organizing, I really do love things in order. (shhhh don’t tell anyone that because I can’t handle the pressure!)

Anyway, that’s my scoop today. I’ve got loads on the go with Boutique Cafe as well, I could use a nap tonight before bed. :) Ciao readers and thanks for dropping by my crazy life.

Joshua’s Advice

June 9, 2008

I don’t know what it is about little boys and bodily sounds but they think everything is hysterical! Today Joshy was priding himself on making some very loud burping and tooting sounds. I said “Joshua, please don’t do that. You’re teaching Noah how to do yucky things. I need you to be a good example.”

So Joshua turns to Noah and says “Noah, don’t do what I do!”

Parent Payday!

June 4, 2008

At lunch today we’ve been making paper crowns together for each of the kids. They LOVE doing this activity and making their crowns look adorable. During the process Joshua looks at me thoughtfully and says “Mom, you’re the best woman I’ve ever met!”

It felt like a huge parent payday to me. Thanks for filling the “Mommy Bank” Joshua, you have no idea how much I cherish the sweet things you say to me and the encouragement you give to me. You’ll be an exceptional Daddy and husband someday to be sure!

I made a big paper cutout of a heart to put on Joshua’s crown and wrote “King of Love” on it! He’s in heaven about it.

I know I can’t make claims like that without solid evidence so here goes…

Exhibit A: Joshy and Brigs demonstrating how to look insane in a “brother’s picture”

Exhibit B: Noah catches on quickly!

Well finally after many months of waiting our Joshy went in for his Tonsil and Adenoid removal last Friday. Joshua was diagnosed with sleep apnea and we’re really hopeful that this will allow him to feel more rested in the morning, as well as allow more oxygen to his brain and body. It’s been a whirlwind of emotion for me having my little man’s care in the hands of those other than myself.

He went into the hospital in great spirits, taking his Daddy’s hat and turning it sideways on his head. Then of course came the “cool” hand gestures that made Nathan and I totally crack up. When we got inside he quickly changed out of street clothes and into the CLASSIC hospital pj’s – loving the stripes!

The surgery took much longer than we anticipated and Nathan was even looking a bit worried. Thankfully, he came through with flying colors and after he awoke we were able to see him. After loads of Tylenol and Codeine the boy was feeling better and able to take on the mountain of juices and popsicles the nurses were throwing at him. He’s home now and still a bit sore and swollen, but the kid has shown amazing inner strength. He’s such a lovely child and we’re so proud of how he’s handled all of this!

Do you Recognize Me?

March 17, 2008

I’m going to have to write a book full of Joshua-isms. Today he was telling me “Mom, your old school friends must miss you. I don’t think they would recognize you now.”
“oh why is that?” I said
“Because you’re still beautiful, but you’re old!”

Today Joshua was in the van with me and this is the conversation that transpired – I swear!! I rushed home so I wouldn’t forget a word of this. You have to understand, this kid is the most hilarious creature I’ve ever met. The stuff that comes out of his mouth totally shocks me sometimes. He’s extremely sweet and sensitive, but also a mixture of energy and mischief. I love that boy!

Joshy – “Mommy I love you so much. If you died unexpectedly I would take a knife and put it in my chest so I could be with you.”
Me – “Honey no, you don’t ever take your own life. God gave us our lives as a gift and he doesn’t ever want you to kill yourself or anyone else. Dying is just part of life. I love you too, but there will be a time when we can be together again.”
Joshy – (audible sigh from the back seat) “Ok then, I’ll just kick back and enjoy the ride!”

ROTFL!

People with Tattoos

February 5, 2008

Strap yourselves in for another hilarious Joshua story. The other day he walks up to me (very serious, sporting his intense look).

Joshy -”Mommy you know what?”
Me – “What honey?”
Joshy – “People with tattoos belong in jail…never trust a person with tattoos…they can’t be trusted!”

Mmm, I guess I shouldn’t get that teddy bear tattooed on my thigh huh?
