Easter Break Rewind

April 17, 2010

For Easter Break this year we decided to travel across the border to Washington and visit the lovely city of Spokane. Partly because we hadn’t ever been there, and mostly because the iPad was being released in the US and we wanted one for our very own. It’s always sweet to coincide our family trips with an Apple launch (you laugh but it actually works out fairly often for us). While in Spokane we shopped, took the kids to the children’s museum, viewed the IMAX 3D version of “How to Train Your Dragon”, swam in the hotel pool, attended an Easter play downtown at the convention centre, enjoyed the beauty of Riverside Park and all the amazing bridges/waterfalls, took in an arena football game with the Spokane Shock, and ate at SONIC drive-in twice…YUM. On our drive home we stayed at a cool hotel in Fernie with a killer waterslide – the kids loved it.

There’s just nothing like being able to get away together as a family. I am always so impressed with the kids, they travel so well now (even Lola – her first road trip and she slept the whole way on both legs of the trip). Sweet baby. Here’s just a few pics from our family getaway, I have most posted in my Flickr Stream too.

We have a new baby girl and still managed to decorate the house for the holidays! Yay for helpful husbands!! I’m super excited about our new tree this year, and a few special new ornaments for the tree (check out the yummy cupcake one from: GigiMinor on Etsy!)

Our tree is decked out in pink & red (with a hint of lime green here and there). It’s pretty and feminine, I’m crazy about it and so it Lola! The boys like the red parts of the tree, and think that the pink is tolerable. LOL!! Kidding, they don’t mind the pink at all.

Merry Christmas from our home to yours ~ Daria, Nathan, Dylan, Joshy, Brigs, Noah and Lola ~

Time to Plan Holidays

January 30, 2009

Nathan and I are feeling the rush to plan our holidays with the kids this year. We had the most amazing experience last summer traveling to Palm Desert and also spending time at Disneyland and Newport Beach. Our kids ask me daily when we can go back there again. Their favorite thing was the pool at our hotel, it was just amazing and exclusively theirs most of the time. If you’re faint of heart, I don’t recommend going to the desert in August like we did – it was sweltering hot! But slap on the sunscreen, grab a hat, and tote TONS of water and you’re ready to play.

I must say that making those memories with my kids has been one of the greatest highlights for me over the past several years. In all honesty, it was our first BIG trip anywhere with the kids. Our typical holidays are usually spent at family’s homes and reunions. So going somewhere just us, on a plane was a real adventure and treat. No matter what you do, it’s magical to get away with your children and get to know them in a whole new way, and it’s fun for them to see Mom and Dad unhook and party it up with them too.

I’m so looking forward to a fun summer with our four boys + our new little girl! Now that’s going to be an adventure just traveling with them all! LOL!

** So tell me, what are YOUR plans this summer? Are you going somewhere special or are you adventuring in your own home town? I’d love to know!

I HAD to get these shots of my two baby nephew’s over Christmas! Finn and Seger were awesome participants in my little project and I love seeing their reflections in the Christmas balls on the tree, especially with those cute little hands! Oh my, how precious are those little boys! I love love love being an Auntie!!

Oh, and me of course in my housecoat!! LOL!!

I Made Fudge

November 27, 2008

Today I am feeling a bit more perky and like myself. I got dressed today, and decided to make fudge with the little boys. They were home today so it was a great opportunity to do a fun and easy kitchen project with them – and there’s nothing like chocolate to lift your spirits right?!

Noah and Brigs were totally into it and asked if we could make fudge everyday. I’m sure they will help me make several pans that I have planned to give away in the coming weeks. Once Dylan arrived home I heard an audible “MMMMM!!!” from the kitchen – then I heard “This is THE BEST fudge Mom!”. I’m glad he came home to a special treat today.

12 Days of Christmas Season 3 Interview Spots HO HO HO! It’s our favorite time of the year, and Boutique Cafe’s 12 Days of Christmas is back for our FOURTH season of shows. This year we’re recruiting our guests a bit differently, due to the time crunch and increased schedule for Daria, we won’t be running auctions for interested designers/groups/shops to bid on a feature. INSTEAD… we ask that you email us directly as to availability, we will then invoice you for your purchase through Paypal so you can instantly purchase your interview with Daria, in our popular holiday shows that run at the end of November. That’s right – you’ll instantly know that you can prepare and plan for an interview on Boutique Cafe’s biggest shows of the year. Once the 12 spaces are sold that’s it, so don’t delay in grabbing your “Day of Christmas” feature on our podcast.

Our Buy it Now price is $100 per “Day of Christmas” and will feature you, your group, or your boutique related website during a podcast interview. You will have your clickable link and a few photos embedded in our enhanced feed, as well as your url in our shownotes for that show. Boutique Cafe also will be doing a press release during the holiday shopping frenzy to give attention to our 12 Days of Christmas guests.

We have arrived back to our home from our 10 day vacation extravaganza in Palm Desert California, and a three day blissful time in Anaheim at Disneyland. This has been our first major family vacation ever, and by that I mean that typically for holidays we pack up the family and drive to visit our parents and family. So going away to some new land “just us” felt perfectly decadent and thrilling to us.

I had no gage at all as to how the kids would travel on a plane, handle all the waiting in lines at Disney, brave the 100+ weather, airports at 5 in the morning, and enjoy each other 24/7….I just didn’t know what to expect. I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised by my sweet children who did so very well with the heat, upheaval, and change and were able to sink into vacation mode along with us without many issues at all. They LOVED it, and I found my love for them expanding throughout our experiences together. You just can’t beat the wonder in your child’s eyes when they discover sometime new, its precious. I feel so very blessed that we were able to go all together and share in many memories. That’s what it’s all about to me, giving my children great experiences together because I saw so much interest, excitement and hilarity in them experiencing new things they’d never done before.

While on our vacation, Nathan and I also celebrated our 8th Anniversary on Aug. 12th! I must say that I feel so lucky to have Nathan as my companion, he is my rock and my supporter in everything I do. I just love him so deeply and love him far more 8 years later, even though I have discovered a few minor flaws over the years! LOL! He’s my prince and my dream guy all rolled up into the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen. Thank you Honey for the best 8 years so far of my life – as we have always said “The honeymoon never ends, now we just take more little people along with us!” I love reflecting back on our wedding day and get butterflies at all we felt then, and all we have gone through together since. (this pic was taken at Newport Beach, see what I mean?? HOT!!)

I’m just going through our holiday pics right now and will be sharing shortly. For now, it’s nice to be home and I appreciate that the weather is almost comparable in temperature to what we’ve been dealing with in the desert! Nice not to have a shock to the system with snow or something crazy.

I Heart Florida

May 2, 2008

I could seriously get used to living near the beach! When we were recently in Destin Florida, Nathan and I had such an incredible time walking the white sand beaches in the sunset. So romantic and really fun. Especially when the gigantic pelicans started soaring above the water and then diving down into the waves to catch fish! It was incredible to watch.
