New Windows!

3 Sep 2004 In: Confessions of SUPERMOM

Our housing complex is getting all new windows, I’m sure it’s going to look great when they are finished but today is our turn. They will take out EVERY window in the place and put new ones in. It’s going to be a total mess!! Oh so much for my hard work at getting this house ready for back to school and all clean and tidy. I covered everything I could with tarps and old sheets but I know the dust is going to be everywhere!! You ask what my plans are for the long weekend???? LOL!!

A 10 year old’s take on sex

3 Sep 2004 In: Dylan-isms

Yesterday I picked up my Dylan from school and somehow on the ride home the topic of sex came about. Anyway, I said something like:
“hey buddy, we didn’t get to have that talk about sex the other day and we should do that so you can ask some questions if you have any.”
Dylan’s response “I don’t want to talk about “That” Mom, it’s gross!”
“Dylan, how do you know it’s gross? Why do you think that?”
“Mom, I just know.”
“How do you know it’s gross sweetie? Did someone else tell you about it?”
“No I figured it out on my own.” he says
“Well Dyl, how do you know that you’re right about it if you just figured it out??” I said
“Mom, if it’s what I think it is………..then I DON’T want to know about it!!” followed by his classic giggle.
I just about hit a tree I was laughing so hard!

YAY BRIGS!!!!

2 Sep 2004 In: Brigham growing up

My baby boy is FINALLY sleeping through the night in his OWN bed and even woke up happy this morning. He woke up in the night and cried for maybe a minute and then comforted himself back to sleep - I think I have just been BLESSED!!! To some of you this may seem like a trite thing to make mention of but if you knew this kid and how he’s been over the past few months you’d be cheering with me in your loudest voice!! YAY BRIGHAM!!!

Thank you bouquets

Back to Class Blues

1 Sep 2004 In: Confessions of SUPERMOM

I took Dylan for his registration day today for 5th grade! WOW time just flies by, for those of you mom’s out there that have little ones just enjoy your kids while they are home with you! I can’t believe my boy is growing up and as he puts it “almost a teenager!”
We’ve been putting off getting Dylan’s school supplies and man was that a dumb idea! I had to go to at least 5 different stores to get all the things that they say he needs but I know he’ll likely not use! Doesn’t it upset you that they ask you to have specific BRANDS of items too? I couldn’t believe the list they gave us and frankly I don’t know what kind of 5th grade they’re running but 12 notebooks, plus binders and paper, PLUS duotangs and paper!! The kid better be getting a degree this year! I don’t think I needed that much stuff for High School.
Oh I remember the good old days when Dylan went to a school where they just collected a set fee and then supplied EVERYTHING your kids would need for the year. Now that was smart and much more reasonable price wise to because the school got big discounts for volume purchases. I think I need to join the PTA this year - in my spare time of course.

Breast or wing?

31 Aug 2004 In: Joshua's Antics

Joshy (3 years) is just fascinated with women’s chests and has been since he was tiny. Yesterday he came up to me, grabbed my chest and looked up with a sweet face. “Nice Mommy, Nice!” and then giggled and said “there you go.” and toddled off.

Apparently he felt that I needed some reassurance.

Some of our family already knows this but I wanted to forever capture it as one of those classic HILARIOUS Dylan moments.

My Dad came into town to drive me back home this summer while I’ve been so ill with my pregnancy. Nathan, Dad and all the boys decided to go for a walk that night and I stayed home on the couch and turned on the TV to pass the time. I ended up turning on a discovery channel type show about whales. Just then Dylan and my Dad came back to the house and sat down with me to watch. Suddenly on the t.v. screen they decided to show several shots of whales aggressively mating. I was just about to hop up and change the channel when Dylan says “Hey Mom, what’s that thing coming out of that whale? Is that a ROBOT arm?” to which suddenly the commentary comes on and says “and the male moves his GIGANTIC penis….” Dylan pause “That’s a penis?!!!!!” Dylan exlaims loudly. “That’s a Mighty Huge penis!!!!!!!”
By this time my dad is just about rolling on the floor in laughter. But the hysterics just kept on coming with Dylan’s next observation. “What is he doing to that other whale? Is he poking it in the EYE???!!!”
Needless to say we’re having several talks about reproduction, sex and how the body works. Discussions are definitely in order.

Do you have any funny stories to share about when you each learned about sex? Please share them with me, I would love to hear!

The kiss and wipe

31 Aug 2004 In: Joshua's Antics

Joshy my enthusiastic and adorable 3 year old is now employing a new tactic to his hilarious repitore. I can’t belive that my sweet angel comes up and says “Kiss Mommy, kiss mommy” and then when I give him one he Wipes it off his face!! He’s proud to wipe it off to and makes no effort to hide the fact that I apparently now have girl germs!

Oh my baby is growing up, I think I felt the apron strings pull tighter for a moment and cut off my circulation.

Dylan at the Circus

29 Aug 2004 In: Dylan-isms

While at the Circus on Saturday the ring master woman stands up and announces that now they will be selling the coveted Circus coloring books and that “all the parents should buy them and give one to a POOR UNFORTUNATE child who didn’t get to go to the circus today”. Dylan looks at me and says with his sweet innocent face “don’t believe it mom they’re just trying to scam you.” then he gives his classic Dylan pause and comes out with “besides I don’t think that the unfortunate children have crayons anyway!”
I love that kid - he’s so dang cute!!
