Homeschool Graduation – my girls

Last Friday evening we had the honour of attending the Homeschool Graduation of these gorgeous, talented & amazing girls. Shae, Tanisha and Ellen who were all my Young Women at one time and are most dear to me. What a delight to come together to celebrate their achievements and also to hear of their dreams for the future. As a homeschooling parent myself it was a beautiful experience to see so many in our community and church family gather to celebrate these remarkable girls. I just adore them and had so much fun snapping pics of the evening for them.

I love this darling girl, she is most precious to me. In moments like this when she’s growing, and I can see the beautiful person she is ever becoming I have a heart full of gratitude.

Sick of Sickness

So I’m exhausted of sickness, truly. We have been battling illness since our extended family came to us visit 4 weeks ago (I blame Nicole’s kids – HAHA kidding). It started with flu and sinus colds but turned into the most horrible awful bronchitis known to man.

Finally after every last child and myself have had it (and I’m starting to come back to life) my sweetheart Nathan is in Bronchitis land. He’s so sick, my heart aches seeing him with high fevers, night sweats, coughing, aching, you name it. The boy is sick. **UPDATE: Nathan has Walking Pneumonia

I am looking forward to one week in the near future when everyone in my whole house is well. This has been utterly exhausting trying to care for my whole family 24/7 while I needed care too. Not to mention all of my Sister-in-Laws keep posting adorable instagram photos of their current projects, sewing, cooking, and cute wardrobe choices – I’m like…Great I suck.

Stick a fork in me, I’m done.

Noah’s Baptism Day

A few pictures from Noah’s special day. If you know our Noah you definitely know that this boy is a deep thinking, deep feeling soul. He’s shy very often so he wanted to have a more personal Baptism with less onlookers there, however in the moment he was excited and grateful for all of the support and attention. It worked out perfectly! Noah is actually 9 years old, usually children are Baptized in our church when they turn 8, however we felt that Noah wasn’t quite ready and we wanted him to understand the covenant he was making. It was perfection that we waited, I’m so happy we did because as my children keep teaching me over and over again, they all come to things in their own time and when they do it’s Magic! It just clicks.

Noah was deeply concerned about going under the water, so he was overjoyed when Nathan said that he could wear goggles to be Baptized (whatever made him feel comfortable), and I have to tell you that when he walked into the Baptismal font with goggles (thanks to his Auntie Nicole who went last minute to hunt some down!!) it was the most adorable scene I’ve ever witnessed. Oh I love that boy!

We were so fortunate that Nathan’s side of the family was able to come and be a part of this special day with us! Noah’s Auntie Katie made a special Baptism towel for Noah with “CTR” on it (Choose the Right). He loves it!

Noah was Baptized and Confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints by his Daddy. When Noah was changing after he was Baptized he said to Nathan several times “I feel so happy!” “I feel so happy to be Baptized!”

A Few Special things on the Program:

Opening Prayer : Conor Muirhead (Noah’s Uncle)

Baptism Talk : Nathan Muirhead

Song: Baptism by the Sister Missionaries (Sister Hale, Sister Nelson, Sister Jones and Sister Evangelista)

Testimonies: Jim Muirhead, Ted Murray, Daria Muirhead, Catherine Muirhead,

Talk on the Holy Ghost : Kim Kara (a special friend in our ward)

Closing Prayer: Nicole Larsen (Noah’s Aunt)

We are so grateful for everyone’s love and support of Noah! Thank you to those that came so far, and also for our family that couldn’t come but sent messages of love for him. Thank you all, it was a special day in the life of our family.

Here’s a link to the LDS church website if you would like to know more about Baptism and our Heavenly Father’s Plan for his children. I can tell you that for me living the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings me such happiness and joy, it’s the foundation of my life and my family. If you’d like to read more about my own Baptism as a child, I have recounted some fond memories on my profile here>>

My Son is Going on a Mission!

Our oldest son Dylan (otherwise known by his friends here as Tavis, his middle name) surprised us on Christmas Eve with the news that he had prepared his papers to go and serve a mission for our church! This essentially means that he will be leaving home for two full years to serve others by teaching them the gospel of Jesus Christ as a Missionary. He will serve and teach, devoting all of his time to this purpose, he will contact us by letters and email, and a phone call at Christmas and Mother’s Day. This is purely a volunteer mission, he simply loves God and wants to serve others.

As you can imagine this is a huge event in the life of our family. We are beyond proud of our son’s kind and loving heart. He is such an amazing person and it has been the delight of my life to be his Mom. I will miss him exceedingly and so will our entire family. I am comforted knowing that God has a plan for him to teach and serve others. I pray each day that he will encounter kind and loving people, that he will be safe and blessed and that he will share the love our family has with those he teaches. We will find out in a few weeks where in the world he will be going (until then we’re on pins and needles with endless guesses as to where he will go). Here’s a wonderful talk/article on how Missionaries are assigned to a specific mission area.

I love the gospel and I love Jesus Christ. It is such a blessing and a privilege to have a son who does also, and desires in his own heart to serve in this all encompassing way.

Our family belongs to the LDS church (sometimes referred to as the Mormon church). If you would like to know more about our faith and our Heavenly Father’s plan for his children I would encourage you to check out It’s a great direct source for all kinds of information about our faith, and love of Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father.

Lola’s first Ballet Classes – last day

At the end of November Lola’s first Ballet classes ended. Each day since she comes to me and says “It’s NOT Ballet day Mommy”, she misses it for sure.

We were so proud of our girl. Nathan sneaked out of work and I brought the younger boys with me to see her last class. Lola’s brothers were delighted, in fact Joshua said afterwards “That was the MOST adorable half hour of my life!”.

A few of Lola’s class members were sick that day (massive flu going around) so it was just Quinn and Lola, along with Miss Emily.

We can’t wait for the next round of classes in the New Year. Lola dreams in ballet pink.

My Kids: Personal Christmas Cards

Each year I always send out our family Christmas card and letter. It’s fun and all encompassing. This year however I thought it would be a fun project for the kids to create their own personal holiday card & notes and send them out. We’ve been working all afternoon using the photos that their Auntie Liz took while she was visiting this summer. (thank goodness for Photoshop to add text, and our home printer)!! We were able to print a bunch and get going.

The kids sat with me at the computer and told me exactly what they wanted their cards to say, colors everything. I was the grunt worker.

Here’s some sneek peeks. I think it’s really so lovely to include them in sending out their own personal cards to loved ones. It makes me all warm inside to see their little lists made up of the names of their family and friends who they want to reach out to of their own accord. Worth every extra stamp!!

Watch for their love for you in the mail soon.

So we sent these off as a little homeschool project, but everyone started asking where Dylan’s card was because they want to complete the set. Here’s the boy!

An October Visit with Wynders

October brought a 10 day visit from my parents (they always seem to come in Fall, next time summer right Mom??). We were so excited to have them come and celebrate their 41st Anniversary with us too. We enjoyed a wonderful day at Goldstream and enjoyed the beauty of fall here on the Island.

I love my parents so dearly, they are so special. I cherish all of the times I get to spend with them as an adult and for my children to know and love them.

An Epic Farewell Battle with Muirhead’s

Continuing with my posts of lovely visits we had with family recently, Nathan’s parents arrived in September for “fun in the sun”…literally. They came to visit with us in Victoria for a few days, but then came along on my SURPRISE 40th Birthday trip to Arizona that my darling planned for me. So much fun!!

On the morning that they left, Nate’s Mom had planned a spray string battle for us on the beach. My kids were in pure heaven getting to actually shoot their Grandparents with silly string, and it’s was “Nana’s Idea” too!!! Goodbyes are always hard so this was perfect, lots of laughs before they drove away.

Liz and her Children Visit – Summer 2013

It’s ALWAYS a total delight to have the Cranmers arrive for a visit. This year Kent didn’t make it out, but his brave beautiful wife and her crew came all on their own. Liz is a trooper, in the face of a massive accident and backed up traffic for hours on a mountain road – she braved it all! We loved our visit with you guys. Thanks for the fun memories of Berry picking, sunday church with you guys in our tiny primary, finger painting, swimming, eating, delivering newspapers on our route, family pictures, Brigs Birthday celebration and on and on!!

Lola was in heaven having Auntie Liz here. Showing off her dolls always gets the biggest reaction from Liz, she’s so fun!

Liz laying out our family clothing for pictures the next day. She’s THE BEST!!
