Tonight I attended a Mix & Mingle event at our local Chamber of Commerce. It was really well attended and I was able to network with so many new faces regarding my new Business Boost venture in the city, as well as Boutique Cafe.

The coolest part of the evening had to be when they were drawing door prizes, and I won a free conference room at the Galt Museum! It’s a gorgeous facility, and since I’m coordinating monthly speakers in our area, it couldn’t have gone to a gal who needs this prize more!! Yay, thanks Lady Luck for helping my biz card stick to the fingers of the person drawing. LOL!!

At Market I tested my tech skills and gave myself a near heart attack trying to manage set up for a LIVE STREAMING videocast directly from Houston. We set up in the press room and I was able (with a bit of panic) to get the stream working. CHEERS from the crowd!! Honestly I must say that I was pretty proud of myself.

On the first day I interviewed Fabric Designers Patty Young, Paula Prass and quilt pattern designer Elizabeth Cranmer (Lizzy Anne Designs). They went really well, and we even recieved applause from those in the press room (can you say Blush?? I thought I was in my own little world and that nobody in there was really watching me). :)

Liz is offering a Giveaway to one of our Boutique Cafe viewers! You can win her very popular Quilt Pattern called “Spring UP!”. To enter simply comment on our triple threat show right here.

More Live Videos will be up on Boutique Cafe soon, as well as my wandering interviews with the designers right on the show floor. Loads to share! OH AND LOADS OF GIVEAWAYS TO DELIVER TOO! Keep Tuned!

Greetings from Houston, Texas! What a thrill to be in such an exciting state, and to take part in International Quilt Market for the Fall Season. My Sister-In-Law Elizabeth is along with me to assist in recording the event, as well as promote her new quilt pattern called Spring Up found at Patty Young’s mouthwatering booth! Today was more of a warm/prep up day for us, Amelia drove out from Austin to spend the day with us and take us shopping to the Galleria (amazing shopping experience). It was sad to have her leave tonight, but her duties at work this weekend made it only possible for a one day visit (thank you for coming Amelia!). We then headed back to the hotel to get ready for the Fabric 2.0 Party hosted at the Hilton SkyBar by Michael Miller Fabrics and JCaroline. – THANK YOU for a wonderful party!

The event was definitely bigger than the previous 2.0 in Portland, with a gorgeous rooftop view of the Houston Skyline at Sunset. I was happy to meet with many friends from last Spring, and many new connections as well. A fun surprise was that in attendance was Jay McCarroll from Project Runway! I was humbled to hear how news of our quilt market coverage had travelled, truly Boutique Cafe is getting out there into the mainstream and people are talking and sharing – what a sweet thing to realize.

Shoutouts to: Christina from Etsy, Melissa Averinos, Patty Young and her husband Jon, Becky Brumley from Upsiedoodle, Jessica Jones, Mary (my twitter peep @flourishes), Sherees Alchemy, Myrinda from Fabric Hound, Deborah Hearn from Craft Magazine and many many MANY more I can’t possibly type them all! It was wonderful to see you, I can’t wait to wander market tomorrow and see all the beautiful booths, we’re hoping to provide great coverage to those who aren’t able to attend. On our way out, I bumped into Heather Bailey in the hallway. She looked gorgeous as always, beautiful in a yellow sweater and her hair had tiny flowers. We had a fun exchange in the hallway of the Hilton, talking about how tomorrow would go, and laughing that if we couldn’t get the LIVE FEED to work tomorrow that we’d record a choppy video piece stating that there was an earthquake! She’s so funny!

Before heading back to the hotel to soak our feet, we stopped in at Sample Spree. This was a new experience for me, and the line up was HUGE! Thankfully as media we were able to rush right in and take a few crowd pictures. It was intense, with loads of activity/selling/chatting going on in all corners. They had some lovely samples for sale, and the bonus was seeing my dear friend Gina from The Threaded Pear and Quilter’s Buzz. We’ll definitely see her tomorrow.

That’s just Day 1 Prep, tomorrow is the opening of Market and the floods of people will be flowing in. I’m off to bed to rest up, but I couldn’t go to bed without sharing an update with all of you. Love from Texas – Daria

It’s International Quilt Market this weekend in Houston, Texas, and Boutique Cafe will be there covering the event as media!

This time around I’m eager to try something a little bit different for our community, and offer a LIVE VIDEO FEED from Market on Saturday!! This is of course dependent on the quality of the internet connection at the Convention Centre, so if glitches arise please bear with us as we’ll have other coverage as well.

So, if you’d like to join in a little Boutique Cafe history with me this Saturday, Oct. 25th (approx. 11:30 am Houston time) – we’ll give it our best college try, and see if we can hold live interviews, in real-time for you!!

In order to participate, you’ll need to join www.ustream.com as a member, you’ll be able to participate in the Chatboard that runs next to the video feed. You’ll be able to comment, ask questions, and say hello to our guests directly! Can you say FUN?

**Once we’re setup and ready to start streaming, I’ll send a Twitter Tweet message with the url. (if you don’t have a Twitter.com account be sure to join and then click to follow Boutique Cafe’s updates)

See you at Market! We’re taking YOU with Us!!

Quilt Market in a few days!

October 20, 2008

I’m so thrilled to be attending Fall Quilt Market for a second time as media. What an honor to be asked back by Quilts.com to cover the event via Boutique Cafe! This time around I’ll have my sis-in-law Elizabeth – aka Lizzy Anne Designs with me as my photographer/assistant – she is launching a new quilt pattern at market and has created a mouthwatering quilt out of Patty Young’s new Andalucia Fabrics! Be sure to stop by Patty’s booth to see everything yummy!

I’m also eager to see my best friend Amelia!! She’s a native Texan, and it will be fun to spend friday with her in Houston before Market officially begins. It just wouldn’t be the same without her! Missing from the Boutique Cafe crew this time around is my friend Megan, who is due with a sweet new baby in a few weeks so it’s too close to travel. I’ll miss you so much Megan!!! XOXO

As for designers, I’m eager to meet up with Sandi Henderson, Patty Young, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, Tina Givens, Joel Dewberry, Paula Prass, Melissa Averinos, Tanya Whelan, the super sweet Jennifer Paganelli, and my dear friend Amy Butler. (Plus many many more!!)

If you’re attending or exhibiting at Market please shoot me a comment or email so I can be sure to drop by with the video camera. :) See you when I get back with hopefully some stunning footage.

Our dreams are coming true, Boutique Cafe is heading to California!! We’re going to be taping a Video podcast for Boutique Cafe at Disneyland next week!

I’ll be at the park next Tues, Wed, Thursday. If you’re going to be there with your kids, dress them in Boutique, we’ll be watching for you – I’d love to get them into the segment! If you’re a designer this would be a great way to showcase your designs in the happiest place on earth!

We hope to meet several of our Boutique Moms there, and your Disney-kids too!! If you’re going to be in the area, please leave me a comment below and I’ll email you my cell number so we can hook up at the Disneyland park.

See you there! – Daria

***Shhh!!! Don’t tell my kids, they don’t know we’re going there yet!! hee hee

Have you been wondering where I’ve been? It’s been a long little break but in that time I managed to attend the Portland Quilt Market and cover it as media for my podcast at Boutique Cafe.

I was drooling over all of the gorgeous apron designs and patterns at Market this year! You would have loved it too. Today I wanted to share an interview I had with designer Jan Lutz from The Apron Lady Designs.
**If you leave a comment in our shownotes at Boutique Cafe.com you’ll be entered to win some cool giveaways from Jan.

Enjoy!!

I’m a geek, I admit it. I loves me a little technology, and that’s why you should check out my buddy Chassy Cat’s show…Technogeekery. She fills her episodes with a combo of geeky information and her own “special” brand of humor. :)

Oh and another reason to watch her new show #30 is because I’m in it! I’m THAT cool! L

watch Daria break loose and goof around>>

Only pure love for The Chassy would make me share this with anyone!

For the past few days I’ve been immersed in the creative kingdom of International Quilt Market (in Portland). Boutique Cafe was given special access within the show to videotape and interview a plethora of our fabric and designer heroine’s and (heros). Taking along my amazing team of Megan from Brassy Apple and Amelia from Intimate Photography we worked the showroom floor interviewing, capturing and photographing, drool worthy textiles and admirable creative geniuses. We also had the opportunity to meet up with several members of the boutique designer community, it’s been the most spectacular meet and greet!

We’re on our way home tomorrow, and can’t wait to share it all with you! Now the fun begins as we edit video tape and photos to share on Boutique Cafe. Watch for our coverage of 2008 Portland Quilt Market…coming soon!!
