Wondering why I haven’t written lately? Well it might be due to the lame birthday I just barely experienced, causing me to go into a state of shock/coma. I’m NOT embracing the new number that signifies my worldy experience, but I will definitely embrace any comments from people saying that I look WAY WAY younger than my age.

October 17, 2008Gal to Gal Virtual Walk – Tribute to Dorit
October 17, 2008
“To our dear friends -
It is with great sadness that I must let you know that our Gal to Gal Foundation President, Dorit Shapiro, lost her brave battle to Stage IV breast cancer yesterday. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting Dorit – I can tell you that she was an incredible woman who believed passionately in the purpose behind the Gal to Gal Foundation.
As you may know, this year’s virtual walk hopes to raise $250,000 by asking each and every one of us to take 5 minutes and $5 and go to www.galtogalwalk.org and create your virtual walker. It is our hope to grant hundreds of wishes for Stage IV breast cancer patients and their families this holiday season. With your help we can!
Dorit’s wish was not for herself. It was that we make this goal and that no woman living with Stage IV should feel alone in this journey. Please join Dorit’s virtual self and all of us today in her honor!
Here is a tribute to Dorit where you can listen to her own words spoken 1 week ago (!) as we kicked off this event. Unfortunately after this speech she took a turn for the worst. She will be missed by her family and friends very much! Dorit just turned 38 years old with 2 daughters (ages 4 and 8). Please help us grant Dorit’s wish.
Watch now!
With hope in my heart!

It’s a BOY!
April 13, 2007Ok so I’m sure you all gasped as that’s what the “Normal” thing to hear from me would be. However it’s not me that is expecting a baby but rather my sister in law Liz! After what sounds like a very cool ultrasound yesterday they have announced to the world that a new baby brother will be winging his way on stork airlines to big siblings Vienna and Evan. What a treat to hear someone other than myself announce that they are expecting a bundle in BLUE! LOL!!
Congratulations Kent and Elizabeth on your highly anticipated new bambino! I’ll be submitting my prized list of boy names with a “v” in them shortly.
Now on to the arm twisting and total conspiracy to get me fat and bulgy. Apparently there is a secret campaign between Nicole and Liz to get me expecting this year – I clued into this plot when Nicole announced she would come to my house and punch holes in any condom she could find (Mom don’t read that line)
. Then Liz followed up with her offer to make me a meal each week of my pregnancy if I would have another baby! So I ask you…what is the fascination with Daria getting pregnant? Am I that much fun to look at? I’m almost 100% convinced that I’m incapable of having a girl after having 4 boys. And more importantly, would you let Nicole into your homes now? ROTFL
Funny Little Andrew!
April 2, 2007We went to my parents house yesterday for Sunday Dinner. It was a fun time with lots of good food, we all brought something and the kids were thrilled to see their cousins. The noise level was getting a bit too much so we decided to head downstairs with all of the kids and tell some scarey stories which all the boys totally love. We each took turns telling a gruesome tale and laughing at stories of creepy spiders and monsters. Then little 5 year old Andrew stood up to tell his story.
“This story is going to be SCARY for the Girls!” he said laughing. “Once upon a time their were Three Barbie’s, who dressed as boys for Halloween!” (we were already rolling with laughter) “They went to every house in the neighbourhood but all they got was garbage and banana peel sandwich’s!” “Then they went to one ladies house, and she tortured them by making them clean her house!”
We were all weeping because it was so funny and cute coming from his young imagination! We were all scared Andrew! LOL!! Well done buddy.

Two years ago today
July 17, 2005Two years ago today my Grandma.W passed away. I had forgotten the date but Mom called me this afternoon to remind me of the anniversary. Grandma’s Funeral was not your typical funeral in any way, it was more like a wonderful reunion party. Our whole family drew such happiness and comfort from knowing that Grandma and Grandpa were finally together. They had this beautiful love story and a deep friendship, they were salt of the earth people, simple but stalwart and true. Their legacy is in each of their children, and scores of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren. I miss their faces and their voices but I honestly feel their influence and love even when they are not with me. There are some people who live what the world considers to be Great lives, they build fortunes, run huge companies, beat the odds to win championships, or invent amazing things. To me a Great life is one like that of my Grandparents, their sweet and simple values that they passed down to each of their descendants. Their love of each other, their belief in God, their values of family – these are the things that touch me as Great. These are the goals that I set for my own. I am grateful to know that it’s possible to live such a life, the path has already been trodden beautifully by my own ancestors. What an awesome blessing to have that kind of example for life. It’s not a sad day for me, it’s a day of thankfulness and of joy – I know that my Grandparents are together and more in love than ever just waiting for us all to be together again. I believe it and know it in the fibre of my being and that makes it a happy day for me.

July 8, 2005Our son Dylan is growing up before my eyes, I’ve noticed the glaringly obvious truth that my first baby is changing and maturing. He eagerly tells you that he’s a “pre-teenager” and I’ve noticed that he’s just different about some things. Probably small and unnoticeable things to anyone who doesn’t know him well, but Mommy’s know. Today I took him to the bank to open his first savings account, he was OVER THE MOON excited. The bank lady spoke to him directly and explained everything to him in detail, I think he felt very grown up and responsible for his own money now. It was fun to see him excited about saving (a talent that he surely didn’t inherit from me). He got to pick his own pin number and was thrilled about that too, and exclaimed that he couldn’t tell me what it was because it was private! LOL! I remember him as a toddler, the sweet little freckle covered face and laid back attitude. He’s always been just a dream child, in fact sometimes when he’s a bit less than perfect some-days I know it really affects me because the kid is just so dang good all of the time. I love that kid, I don’t want him to grow up too fast and leave me. I have anxiety everytime I allow myself to think of him all grown up off at college or getting married and moving away (and by away I mean down the block because living in at least the same city is essential to my plans!) ROTFL.
Do you have pre-teens that are aging and changing before your eyes too? Let me know how it’s going for you?

BACKYARDIGANS are a family FAVE at our house
May 17, 2005
My kids LOVE and I mean LOVE the BACKYARDIGANS. We’ve just recently discovered this show but I love that the little guys rely on their imagination for FUN! (left to right: Tyrone, Tasha, Pablo, Uniqua and Austin) who embark on amazing 3-D epic adventures in their backyards .The music is so peppy and catchy – I love that my little boys jump up and start dancing whenever they sing on the show. I also like that their voices are plesant and not annoying as some cartoon type characters can be. Have your kids discovered the Backyardigans and if so do they love them too??
