We had a Happy Halloween

November 1, 2008

Halloween was such a blast this year. The kids were so excited for the big day to arrive, it’s always such fun to see what everyone dresses up as. For my boys it was the year of the Super Hero! Dylan dressed as Fred Flinstone, Joshua was Movie Batman, Brigs was Original TV Batman, and Noah transformed into Spiderman with the help of his big brothers. We originally thought he would go as a dragon, but once he saw Joshy and Brigs only a superhero would do!!

Dylan came home from school on Friday and asked if he could decorate the house outside. We had a blast turning the front porch into something Halloween Special. Covered in cobwebs, spiders, ghosts, bats, a fog machine, laser and strobe lights. It was a little work of art! People were driving by and slowing down to have a peek so the kids were pretty excited to have such a cool looking house. This year the weather was so warm and pleasant, we needed no jackets! YAY!!

In the end the boys got way too much candy, but they feel asleep with big smiles. What more could a Mommy want?!

Attached are a few links to some short video clips from our Halloween. I hope yours was just a magical and fun!

Little Joys of Motherhood

September 21, 2008

img_7174.jpg There’s something deliciously sweet about being a Mommy right now in my life. I’ve been deeply touched by the bond that I have with my boys, I feel so blessed to have them as mine. I started thinking about just a few of the treasures I have daily right now, and it somehow has worked itself into a blog post. Don’t get me wrong, somedays are tough and I feel like I’m going crazy. It’s only natural in a home so full of testosterone, however I am looking at my role as mommy differently lately. Please indulge me as I try to capture a small amount of what I feel.

Dylan – I can’t believe the blessing it is to have a relationship like this with my teenage son. I marvel and wonder what I ever did to deserve such an amazing child. You and I have been constant companions since the day you were born, my little buddy who was my one and only happiness in my life at one time. We went through alot together and now I know that all of it was worth it. I wouldn’t change a hair on your head kid! At this moment in life you are full of such humor and keep me laughing. I adore each moment that I get to spend with you, you make me feel so valued and respected. I know that many mothers do not have the joy of being truly respected by their children. I hold this as blessing from God, that you talk and share with me and that you still allow me to kiss your cheek and hug you. Thank you for being mine.

Joshy – You are growing up before my eyes, tall tall kid! Each day you are so full of vibrance and life! You make me giggle, you notice things that nobody else would (like when I wear a new pair of shoes, paint my toenails or wear new perfume). You always tell me that I’m beautiful, but it’s you who is beautiful in your loving and tender heart. You try to impress all the girls with your muscles, but I know you still think that “I’m your girl”. You are the KING of comedy around here, with the best one liners I’ve heard. I’m proud to be your Mommy.

Brigs – My little Tiger, my feisty little man. I’m so proud of the things you are doing! I know you are going through alot of changes right now, change isn’t easy for you. And yet I see a light and happiness in you this year as you try new things. I’m so encouraged by your happy face when I drop you at school in the mornings. I want everyone on the planet to know how darling you really are, you’re a sweetheart. I am also proud of the bravery you showed while going through your surgery and recovery this summer. At times I didn’t feel brave but you did so well son. You have so much determination and strength, I love that about you.

Noah – Little ray of sunshine. I could just eat you up, you darling! I sometimes feel near tears when I look at you, my little baby boy. I know that you are not a baby anymore but you still afford me the luxury of cuddle time and kisses. I love that you always want “Eyelash Kisses”, and that you’re talking a mile a minute about everything interesting to you. I love the inflection of your voice when you say “So Mommy! What do we do next?” and “I’m hurt, I want to talk about it”. I love that we get time together in the morning when the other boys are off to school. It’s sometimes the best part of my day because I feel like I really get to know you. You dazzle me with those brown eyes, and I can’t imagine loving you an ounce more than I do – I’d keel over! :)

Thank you for being my children, I love you and I’m so happy to know how fortunate I am. It’s like the heaven’s opened up and poured down the four most adorable children into my home! I am one lucky, lucky mom. XOXOXO!

Boys at Play

September 15, 2008

Being the Mommy to four boys certainly has it’s perks. First and foremost being that they really treat me like I’m their princess! But another perk is definitely being able to overhear their imaginative play. It’s in these times that I always kick myself for not being more on the ball and having our video camera on non-stop record, the dialogue is just too hilarious. This can be evidenced by a recent conversation that Joshy and Brigs had on our trip to California this summer. They were playing in the back of the van when all of a sudden little Brigs pipes up in his sweet voice:
“Joshy I’ll be the good guy, you can be the Perpetrator!”

I’ve got my own little comedy channel going 24/7 around here, and the good news is that I rarely have to beep out bad language! LOL!

Fighting Boys Crack Mom Up!

September 12, 2008

Josh and Brigs have been loud and arguing for the past few hours. I was totally getting frustrated because nothing I did was working. Finally, in my frustrated Mommy tone I exclaimed:
“Guys! What is up today? Why are you being so loud and mean to each other?”
To which Joshua instantly pipes up:
“We can’t help it Mom! We were born this way!”
(at this point I’m trying not to laugh) I continued by saying:
“If you can’t get along and be kind I’ll be taking away your TV privileges.”
“That’s the end of our learning Brigs!” Josh replied

Brigs Surgery

July 14, 2008

Last week was Brigs long awaited Tonsil and Adenoid removal surgery date. He was very brave for the most part and came through the surgery really well. It’s taken a bit longer for him to bounce back than his older brother Joshua, but Joshy was lucky enough to be able to have the new Coblation method which has less bleeding, less pain, less swelling. Sadly they weren’t able to do that method for Brigs.

I was very proud of my little guy, but I never want to take him to a hospital again! The kid was climbing the walls to get out of there! (we both were). Thanks to our family members for all of their help! We couldn’t have done this without you all. XO

Can you say Feisty??

June 25, 2008

There are many moments that my kids just shine and I completely gush over how wonderful they are. This is not really one of those stories, but begs to be told!

Yesterday was Joshua’s end of the year class picnic at a lake near the school. Brigs and I ran over to meet up with Joshy’s class and to surprise Joshy. While we were waiting for the Grade 1’s to arrive we decided to play on the playground. Brigs climbed up on this tall wooden platform and was so proud to be up so high. He was having so much fun that it attracted the attention of an older kid who was also there. He climbed up next to Brigs and was likely double Brigs size! Then my little sweet voiced boy says to the huge child next to him “you’d better get off here or I’m gonna punch you in the face!!”

Ok I was totally shocked. The kid could have easily beat the tar out of Brigs with one swoop. Amusingly, I think he actually found it funny and started to laugh a bit, that this little mosquito of a kid was threatening him. I of course talked with Brigs at length about his behavior and delt with it on the spot. But the thing I wanted to convey with this post is how the size of his body does not even come close to the size of his spirit! He’s just my sweet little feisty Brigs (must be all the Scottish blood in him).

Big News for Brigs Lovers

March 12, 2008

Yesterday Brigs was in the van after school and out of the blue said. “Mommy you know, you named me Brigs Conor”
I said yes and he said “I want you to call me Brigs Conor!”. So for those who know Brigs, please adjust the way you address him now and call him “Brigs Conor” as he’s really into it!! :)

(we’re sure that Uncle Conor will be thrilled!). Do any of you have children who like to be called a certain thing? For the longest time Brigs wanted to only be known as “Brigs” and not even be told he was cute! “I’m Not Cute! I’m just Brigs!” is all we’d hear. The times are a-changin’.

Last night I was excited to share the Lunar Eclipse with our children. Once it had started, I asked Brigs to hurry downstairs to tell his brothers “we’re going to see the eclipse!”

But in his sweet 5 year old nature what he heard and communicated to the boys excitedly was “Dylan, Josh – We’re going to go see paperClips!” LOL!
Adorable isn’t he?

(By the way, we had an INCREDIBLE view of it from our balcony)

The Amazing Spider-BRIGS!

October 31, 2007

Happy Halloween! I wanted to share the cutest Spiderman I ever did see. Brigs was so excited to get to school wearing his Spiderman costume (he’s been sleeping in it for the past 4 nights!). The boy was just over the moon to finally wake up and wear it to show his friends. All of his kindergarten teachers dressed as pumpkins, and one kid had an outstanding Optimus Prime Transformer costume.

They get a little class party and a parade around the school to see all the costumes!
