Fighting Boys Crack Mom Up!

September 12, 2008

Josh and Brigs have been loud and arguing for the past few hours. I was totally getting frustrated because nothing I did was working. Finally, in my frustrated Mommy tone I exclaimed:
“Guys! What is up today? Why are you being so loud and mean to each other?”
To which Joshua instantly pipes up:
“We can’t help it Mom! We were born this way!”
(at this point I’m trying not to laugh) I continued by saying:
“If you can’t get along and be kind I’ll be taking away your TV privileges.”
“That’s the end of our learning Brigs!” Josh replied

Jazzed about Apples!

September 10, 2008

jazz-apples_0b05882d.jpg I can hardly believe that I’m going to blog about apples, but I recently discovered JAZZ apples at our local grocery store and have gone back several times to keep replenishing our supply. They are crisp, juicy with a delicious zip to them, and the crunch is fantastic. I was enjoying one at my desk while surfing the web and happened to google Jazz Apples. Who knew that they are actually making quite a name for themselves as a super popular new brand of apple??!! I’m soooo on the cusp of hot products ya’ll!

Conceived in New Zealand from a marriage of sweet Royal Gala and firm, tart Braeburn, Jazzâ„¢ will rock your preconceived notions of how an apple ought to taste. I’m now a believer! Try some and let me know how you like them.

This ain’t your Granny’s apple!! LOL

Nie Nie Recovery

September 8, 2008

Influential and inspiring mommy blogger Stephanie Nielson (”Nie Nie” as she is known to her vast audience of blog fans) and her husband Christian were in a plane crash on August 16th, and are in hospital with serious burns. Since then, word has spread across the globe, with heartfelt messages and donations pouring in for the family. This outpouring of love for the Nielson family reminds me personally of how influential each one of us can be, Stephanie’s blog has touched hearts, lifted spirits, incited laughter, and shone as an example of motherhood as a beautiful career. Her sister C.Jane has been lovingly blogging updates about this inspiring couples progress.

This is absolutely the most tragic thing, my heart aches for their family and their four small children. I have loved reading Stephanie’s blog over the past few years, and appreciate the loving example she sets as a mother and wife. It’s always evident that she adores her family, her children, her husband and God. We are praying for a swift recovery, knowing that it could potentially be months for healing. Sending much love and prayers their way.

Little Girl

September 5, 2008

On Saturday I drove up alone to spend the day with a little 17 month old girl. The amazing thing is that we’re now working on making her part of our family! Nathan and I have been drawn to, and I would definitely say inspired to pursue this, and though I have many fears about adoption and how it will all work out I am elated and full of anticipation at the thought of finally having a daughter. We have some things to sort through before we know if they will approve us, so I’m trying to hold my heart in check (it’s not working too well). In the meantime my heart has been swept away by a little doll with curly dark ringlets, big brown eyes, tan skin and sweet kissy lips.

I spent the first little while letting her warm to me. I bought her a soft little lamb which she was thrilled to receive and promptly placed a big smooch on. We played in the yard and she had me assist in picking every tiny dandelion on the back lawn. Then into her swing while she smiled at the clouds, birds and pointed out planes overhead. Once it was evident that she felt comfortable with me I got the opportunity to take her to a nearby park. It was so fun to prance around and chase this little darling. I had brought her a tutu for the occasion and I can’t tell you how precious she looked with that big puffy tutu in the swings. Then the most amazing things happened, she would walk a few steps from me then run quickly back and throw her arms around my legs. When I scooped her up she nuzzled right into my neck and held me close, so natural and sweet. Apparently she does not warm up to anyone in this way so that made me feel an extra jolt of instant love of course. On the way back in the stroller she greeted person who walked by and said “HI!!”, what a happy baby girl she is. Once back at the place she is living I was even able to help tuck her in for a nap, it took mere moments for her to fall asleep face down in her crib with her knees bent under her and little butt in the air – hilarious!

We talked to the boys about her this weekend, and that there was a sweet little girl who needed a family. Right away Joshua latched on the idea and said “We could be her family!” and when I showed him a picture he welled up with the most tender and sincere tears and said “I want her! Let’s go get her Mom!”. Have I mentioned lately how much I adore my boys? Oh my goodness, I’ll never forget Joshua’s reaction and instant brotherly love for a little girl he had never met yet. It didn’t matter, all he needed to know was that she needed us and he was all in. Joshy I love you for that son.

So right now I’m holding this all very close to my heart and not letting many people know. I guess it just feels like it could all disappear. So I’m saving this entry for a time when I feel a bit more confident in posting it for all to see, but as I silently save this post as a draft I am grinning and thinking that soon I could have 5 children, a girls nursery to decorate, dresses to buy and sew, and a new little sweetie to love. What a dream come true!

And They’re Off

September 3, 2008

The first two days of school are now under my belt for this year and I’m doing a bit better. I know I was pretty weepy about my boys heading back to class (I just have so much fun with them when they’re around), but they are enjoying it thus far.

Joshua scored big time in the teacher department and ended up with Dylan’s old grade 2 teacher. She promptly came over and gushed about how he looked so much like Dylan (which Dylan was pretty pleased to hear – being memorable is always a bonus). Brigs was a bit more hesitant when he hit the classroom, his new teacher seems outstanding and I’m excited to see those two work together this year. I’m going to be volunteering in both classrooms whenever I can so I can participate in what they are up to. Maybe I’ll even learn a thing or two – you never know!

Dylan shot into High School on the grade 9 technicality. Grade 9’s are included in High School here, gulp! He’s off each morning on the bus before I’m out of bed, and has reported that he knows tons of kids on the bus to school from last year. Thank goodness he didn’t have my horrific High School experience of being the new kid and not knowing anyone at all on the first day. We moved during the summer before I started High School and it felt like a huge adjustment just getting to know the kids in the school never-mind find your class, enjoy your class and actually participate. Man I’m glad its them and not me, I don’t really miss high school at all (other than a few close friends I made there).

Noah is my little man at home this year, and I’m so grateful that he is! I couldn’t bear to have them all away all day long. He’s my little sunshine buddy and we have some fun stuff planned to do while the big boys are gone this year.

September is like spring cleaning all over again. I have been ruthless in cleaning and organizing clothing and toys, bedrooms and toybins. Lots more to do but it feels so freeing to rid our home of surplus that is broken or unused. The kids can again walk into their bedroom and pick out the exact toy they want to play with – it’s BRILLIANT!! LOL!! Much better than being impaled in the foot by a swarm of GI Joe’s and plastic swords. For all my griping about organizing, I really do love things in order. (shhhh don’t tell anyone that because I can’t handle the pressure!)

Anyway, that’s my scoop today. I’ve got loads on the go with Boutique Cafe as well, I could use a nap tonight before bed. :) Ciao readers and thanks for dropping by my crazy life.
