Giving Brangelina A Run For Their Money!
For awhile now I’ve been thinking about writing special letters to each of my children telling them about how much I love them, what my dreams for them are and what I loved about them in their first few years of life. If anything ever happened to me I would want them to know so many things and though I don’t plan on dying until I’m an old Granny someday in the far far future you just never know what might happen. I would want them to have a special letter from me that they could read throughout their lives or on their wedding days etc. to let them know that their Mommy thought that far ahead about their happiness you know? Have any of you ever done anything like this for your children?

I have written such letters. However, I spent much more time writing what I remember of my family…back across 4 generations and what their lives - or at least environment - must have been like. I have written that informal history for my grandchildren so that they eventually can see their lives against the background of more than 100 years.

I was thinking about doing a blog just for letters to my kids. I just haven’t had time.

My son is 18 months old and I have started a box of cards for him. Each birthday I will write a letter and place it in a birthday card for him to open years down the road… His first card I told him what he was doing and how much I love him… fun stuff.

I have recently started blogs for each of my 2 children, sort of like “memory books”. In it am writing down different things that they do or accomplish, memories of visuals, things they say and funnies they make. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of design or FTP so there’s no pictures yet…. I’ve only recently started them so there’s not much there but you’re welcome to take a peek:

I love my nieces and am very close to them. Even then, I’ve written many letters, some funny, some sad, some thought-provoking, for them to read when they get older. I believe this is a wonderful legacy for them and it’s inspiring to know that many other “moms” will do this for their children. Great blog and wonderful posts. Take care.

Ever think about scrapbooking? In a scrapbook, you could put these letters, and lots of other information about your past, what you believe, think about, etc. Paired with photos and art, these are fun to read.
