Giving Brangelina A Run For Their Money!
How many of you out there have had “issues” with what to name your new baby? It’s like the bain of my exsitance these days when my hubby and I sit down and rifle through baby name books, family names, scrabble boards (jokes). We just can’t seem to find the right fit and the right fit is so hard. It’s almost like picking a Brand Name for your product, what will people associate with that particular name? What feelings will it envoke? Will the kid get beat up in the school parking lot? Will young girls swoon just hearing his name? Can you picture your child as an adult with the same name? I can think of alot of cutesy names right now for a sweet little pudgy faced baby with drool hanging down his chin, but is that the type of name you want your child to deal with for the rest of his life? Will he hate you for naming him Pooky??? Will he hate you even worse for naming him BRUTUS?? (no offense to any Brutus’s out there?).
Next is the whole family issue, with so many extended family members each having opinions about what’s hot and what’s not. Everyone has some association to particular names and you hear the common comment of “I knew a guy named ……. once and he was a loser!” lol. Or… “um, no offense Daria but my neighbour has a dog named that.” After hearing that you couldn’t possibly name your child after your sister’s neighbours dog…could you??? ![]()
Imagine standing up in Elementary school and telling your class how you got your name. “Um…my parents just really liked the name Sparky.”
So that being said, do you have any Favorite names right now? Suggestions? I’m open to hearing them. I want a name for my son that’s either classic or unique but not weird. Strong but not bullyish :0)
No dog’s names please! LOL!! Parrots, horses and wildcats will be considered…
Thanks!

I guess that great minds think alike,a s I was just thinking about this also!! Not that I really have any input into what this liitle one is to be named, even though I like to think so!! If Kylie was a boy, ( truth be told, I never really thought she was) she would have been Rylan. You know me, I like the little bit off the path names. But, I think I have the perfect name for you…. Bartholemew…. No really, Nathaniel Joseph. named after a fantastic Daddy. You can call him by many names, I would go for Joey. There you have it, my two, or three cents worth!

I like the name Avery, but it is probably better for a girl. Tyler/Taylor are both one’s I like as well. Bubba is always a good back up. Kidding.

I have pleaded with my husband to change his name to Pooky because there are so many Johns in the world. He hates having a an overly used name. But he finds the name embarassing if I call him that in public. I’ve always hated my name in that everyone wants to spell it “Laurie” and to me that’s an entirely different name. But, I’ve not yet though of anything better.
My personal favorite boy names are British, such as Bryce or Bryce Avery, Clive, Sayward (pronounced Saird”.

I’m sure that my #1 son hates his name, but that is because we are yelling it all the time, but
he was a totally different name before he came out. We were all set on the name and when he came
out he didn’t look like that name, so my wife and I decided that he could be the name that I
wanted. It ended up that I got to name all 3 and the funny thing is the 3rd one got the name
the first one was supposed to have and he fits the name much better the the first one would have.

Not that we can have children any time soon (that’s a whole OTHER issue), but I (as a good girl) dream of names. I float them off hubby and he’s like “I knew a girl in 3rd grade with that name that ate her boogers.” I’m like “oh great.”

Found you by way of blog explosion. I have a 12 year old son (and a 9 year old daughter) and we gave them both family names. They both live to hear about how we decided on their names and who they are named for. I’d go with classic–never name a child something that wouldn’t look good on a nameplate in a bank. I think Henry, William, John, James, Michael, Matthew, Stephen, David, Charles, Robert, Richard are all good, and then look through your family for last names for the middle name. Or name him for his grandfathers or great-grandfathers. In our case, and with our nephews, this naming worked out to John Charles, Matthew Benjamin, Thomas Wyatt, Stephen Heyward, and David Jackson. With the last names, any of these would work almost anywhere.

I am named after my Grandmother and I take a lot of pride in that. So I’m an advocate for family names.
My sister’s story is different: Mom wanted my sister to have a name that would not be your average, everyday name. She thought long and hard about it and made her decision, filled out the birth certificate accordingly and sat back happy with her decision. Until, she was riding home with my sister from the hospital, drove through a “seedier” part of town, and saw my sister’s name emblazoned on the marquee of a strip club.
No wonder my sister goes by a nickname now!

Hi. I know that we had more trouble naming our girl (Cailin), than our boy (Raine). I felt Raine was strong, athletic and honest. Not too popular or too weird. And, it really fits him now (he’s 4) and I think it will be an okay when he’s older, too.

I named my son Warren Micheal, Michael being his Dad’s name, because I liked the name Warren it was a “normal” /tradional name yet unusual enough, that was likely to be the only one in school with that name, but not so unusual as to have people wondering what I was smoking. I often thought if had girl I would name her Jaina Nichelle. One thing that helps is looking in name books for names you like the sound of and saying them with your last name to see how they sound. OR if you have someone or someplace that is special to you..

Found you through Blog Explosions! I’m a name fanatic.
You have to decide whether you want your son to have a normal name or a slightly unusual name for which he’ll probably be thankful for later. I have a name that I hate, because there are usually one or two other people with this name wherever I go. And then they try to shorten my name. And my parents gave me this name so I wouldn’t have to shorten it… It’s frustrating.
I can’t think of any good names right now. But I hope you come up with the perfect one!

When we named our oldest son Luke, we thought a lot of guys would have that name (we named him just about the time Star Wars had come out, but we hadn’t seen it until after naming him.) I just knew he’d have half-a-million other Lukes in his classes, but he turned out to be the only Luke at both of his large schools (middle and high school) and it’s pretty uncommon, even at college. And he loves his name, and most of the girls think it’s a very cool name. Our second son was immediately a “Jake” when he was born, though I officially named him “Jacob” because I loved the rhythm of the fuller name. But he’s always been Jake and has loved it. Good luck finding the right fit.
