I’m so proud of Dylan I could just burst. He is 10 years old and has had a huge FEAR of learning to ride a bike for so long, we tried so many things but he was just terrified for some reason. Well on the weekend we went to some Garage Sales and there was a really great black mountain bike sitting there on the lawn. Dylan was immediately drawn to it and walked over and talked to the guy who was selling it. The guy was soooo nice to Dylan and told him that he could have it for FIVE DOLLARS!!! Dylan was elated and when Nathan took a look at it we were all thrilled because it is a wonderful bike and the guy could have got more money for it I’m sure.
Well Nathan and Dylan went out in the back courtyard as soon as we got home and within literally 1/2 an hour my boy was riding a bike unassisted. He’s been on that bike for hours since and is loving going out to “practice”. He even asked to ride it to school this morning. I couldn’t help but get choked up on Saturday seeing him riding around on that bike with so much confidence and satisfaction that he could really do it! It really brought tears to my eyes because I want him to know that he can do anything he sets his mind to and this was an incredible long awaited boost for his confidence. What a joy it is as a Mom to see your kids succeed in their goals, I’m learning more and more what it must have been like for my own parents to see me reach different milestones and know this kind of joy - the joy that comes from seeing your own kids stretching and growing! If my Mom and Dad end up reading this - thanks so much for being my cheerleaders through my whole life!
