Whats your name?
To friends and family and most people my name is Nathan. To the telemarketer and surveyors who call me every so often I’m Mr. Muirhead-which some pronounce confidently and others with slight hesitancy. This ultimately means they’re about to screw it up. Personally I think if your going to slaughter someone’s name you should do it with moxie. I have a habit of mispronouncing one word-compromise. Instead of compromize I’ll often say com-promise. I do the same thing with immunocompromised. I don’t find it strange or foreign when others say it the right way but still that’s the way my brain tells my lips to say it. Go figure.
How old are you? Are you Married?
I’m in my upper 20’s now and enjoying the adventures and maturities of life. I married young and that came as no surprise. I never dated a girl without taking into consideration that she could be the one. That philosophy worked out nicely as I only dated super girls (well mostly super) with lasting qualities. If I couldn’t see any long term future (or if they couldn’t) the dating stopped. Believe it or not Daria and I got engaged after 2 weeks of dating-and still get along famously. In fact I’d say most days we’re still deliriously in love, even 4 years later. If your reading this you probably know that we have 4 kids too. Dylan, Joshua, Brigham, Noah-yes all boys contrary to my wife’s yearning for a girl. Let us just say we are very busy at home. The best moments of my day revolve around my wife and sons. I love the uniqueness and personality that each of them bring to our family table.
Besides being a husband and father (as if that weren’t enough) what do you do?
Outside of my family man role, I’m a student. I’d love to get about a half-dozen degrees but have chosen to focus my sights on dentistry. In my mind it’s a great blend of biology, chemistry, mechanics, business, healthcare, human relations and a great salary to boot. What other degrees would I get if I could? I think Philosophy and Religious Studies would be wonderful or a History degree. Computer Science also calls to me as I delve into HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript, but perhaps just more training in Graphic Design. For now I’ll have to settle for being self-taught in technology.
How did you become the messed up person that you are?
I grew up all over. I’ve lived in Idaho, New York, Connecticut, Colorado, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. I’m pretty easy going and have enjoyed all of these past and current addresses. At the same time I get pretty surly if my house is messy. If I’m cleaning it’s usually because I’m ticked. I like to take out my frustrations out by organizing the crap out of a room. Yes I still drop my clothes on the floor but usually because I get up and go to sleep before and after my wife (nice excuse making eh). I cannot wait for a walk in closet-it’s going to be one of those freaky island in the middle psycho organized closets. At least I dream it will be.
Any hobbies?
I like to read, but that doesn’t mean I’m constantly devouring best sellers. I like to read books that inspire or conspire. Which means I like books that teach leadership, principled living, but at the same time enjoy the infrequent reading of a good novel. Books I’ve read recently are Angels and Demons and the DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, The Book of Mormon, Spiritual Roots of Human Relationships by Stephen R. Covey and numerous dental textbooks. Of course I enjoy my monthly subscription to Macworld and wish I had a subscription to Real Simple. I read quite a few blogs frequently. I like people that blog consistently so I can get my daily fix on their lives or opinions. Along the same line I really enjoy reading a good biography. I dig Apple Computers and love their approach to integrating technology and life. I enjoy the passion of Mac users. When you meet another Mac user there is usually a nice consensual feeling of “The Wink” that says, “Ah, so you’re in the know too.” I’m usually trying out a new piece of software, a new hint, tip or trick, gadget etc. I play the occasional sport-basketball, volleyball, soccer being the favourites. I really like waterskiing and wakeboarding and hope to own a boat someday soon. My favourite day of the week is Sunday. I don’t do any shopping, school studying or sports on that day. Instead our family uses it to reconnect, plan, contemplate, rest, play games, attend church and do service. Sunday is my day of renewal. I often blog on Sundays.
